UCUH
looks charachters and a touch of colour
Today Monday 16th May is the second consecutive day whereby activities for the Youth week are being held. On this day, a photographic exhibition, entitled ‘Ucuh” which is enhanced by the Department of Arts within the faculty of Education at the University of Malta is being held at Casa Leoni, Santa Venera. This exhibition focuses mostly on the diverse models and their characteristics such as hobbies etc. We had the pleasure to meet with Ms. Leanne Moore where she explained to us that with the help of Dr. Raphael Vella who is the head of Department, other students (one of them Ms. Emma Delia which is currently abroad) and also herself have been given the opportunity to prepare some work as part of their studies credit and where they could publish and exhibit same work. The theme of this exhibition is focusing mainly on the characters of the models and the technique being used is based on using mainly black and white with a touch of some colors. For example, one of the photos (left below) shows one of the models, Maria as a shopaholic; hence she is surrounded with shopping bags. Another example is Mariah Sarah’s photo where the books on both the bed and the bedside table represent the love she has for books (right below).
During this exhibition we took the opportunity to take some comments from the public present at venue. The first person which we interviewed was Mr. Moore, a relative of one of the students displaying their work. We asked him what he thinks about both the general exhibition and also regarding the photos and he expressed himself by confessing that even though photography is not a hobby for him, he really liked all the photos. A suggestion he had made was to continue organising such events more frequently as one can learn from them and is a beautiful hobby.
Another comment that we took while attending this event, was from a youth which is also a student at the Department of Arts, at the University of Malta. We asked her what was the thing that she liked most from this exhibition and she showed her passion for the technique being used, hence the mix between black and white as a base and a touch of color to focus on the main objects. During this brief interview, Ms. Debattista showed her concern and suggested that Agenzija Zaghzagh should sponsor activities like this more frequently.
For those that might have wished to view this beautiful exhibition, but they did not had this opportunity, Ms. Moore informed us that some of the photos that were being exhibited at Casa Leoni, will be left at the Agenzija Zaghzagh premises. Other similar activities might arise in the future. I will go and you?!!
